At approximately 11:00 p.m. on July 19, 2010, a woman was killed in west Houston. The traffic accident occurred on the West Sam Houston Parkway service road. The crash involved two cars, a black Honda Civic and a white Chevrolet Corsica.
The police reported that the driver of one of the vehicles ran a red light, which caused the collision. The only person in the Civic, a woman, sustained injuries. The paramedics took the woman to Southwest Memorial Hermann hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity has not yet been released.
No one else involved in the accident sustained any injuries. The police are investigating whether the driver of the Civic or the Corsica ran the red light.
It is not uncommon for car accidents to occur when someone fails to obey a traffic signal. In the worst cases, this type of violation can lead to an accident that causes serious injuries, or as in this case, a fatality. When someone violates a traffic law, such as by running a red light, the person in violation of the law is usually at fault for any accident that results.
