Two Injured in High-Speed Houston Wreck

Two men were injured this week in a high-speed car accident with a tractor-trailer truck. The accident occurred early Monday morning in the eastbound lanes of the Katy Freeway near Silber Road.
A Nissan Altima, said to be traveling at speeds around 100 MPH, tried to navigate around a semi-truck going about half that speed. Instead, it slammed into the back of the truck.
The driver and the passenger of the Altima had to be extracted from the car, which was completely totaled. Both men were taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, one with critical injuries, the other in stable condition.
The driver of the 18-wheeler truck was not injured in the crash, and police are trying to determine what other factors aside from speed contributed to the serious wreck.
