Tow Truck Runs Over & Drags Elderly Houston Woman to Her Death

On Monday afternoon at Bellaire and Pella, in the Sharpstown area of Southwest Houston, a tow truck exiting a shopping center struck an elderly woman and dragged her some distance, a fatal accident witnessed by parents and their schoolchildren at Strake Jesuit school. The woman had been walking westbound on the sidewalk when the gray tow truck hit her and dragged her down the driveway.
Reports indicate that the parents and their schoolchildren screamed at the driver to stop. A neighborhood resident told KTRK that tow trucks drive recklessly down Bellaire all the time at 80 or 90 miles an hour. This negligence on the part of drivers of the heavy tow trucks presents an obvious danger to pedestrians and smaller passenger vehicles in the busy neighborhood.
The tow truck driver was taken in for questioning after the deadly accident. The 73-year-old woman that he hit with his truck received transport to Memorial Hermann Southwest where authorities pronounced her dead on arrival at the facility. The Houston police ask any witnesses to the accident to contact them.
