Tow Truck Driver Dies in Wreck

Posted on Aug 20, 2010

A tow truck driver died at the scene of a wreck in northeast Houston on August 6. At the time of the accident, police were unsure how it occurred. The police now believe that the driver of the tow truck, Rogelio Flores, was racing with another tow truck driver down Jenson to an accident scene at around 1:00 a.m.

The police report that as the drivers approached the intersection at Laura Koppe, Flores’ truck collided with a Nissan 240SX driven by Rogelio Villalobosa. Flores saw the other vehicle but was unable to move out of the Nissan’s path. After Flores sideswiped the Nissan, he lost control of his truck and crashed first into a wooden electric pole and then into a metal light pole, after which his truck flipped over. Flores was killed on impact.

Flores worked for Zone 3 Collision, a wrecking service in Houston. He had worked as an overnight wrecker driver for over twenty years.

Villalobosa sustained minor injuries. A blood alcohol test revealed that his blood alcohol level was 0.13. Villaolbosa is now facing criminal charges for DWI and for intoxication manslaughter.
