Sugar Land DUI Hit & Run Crash Ends in Double Amputation for Victim

Jose Prudent, 30, had a stalled pickup truck. He was pushing his stalled pickup down the Southwest Freeway access road when he suffered a crushing accident from behind. Jose Prudent had neared Sugar Lakes Drive. Then a car, reportedly driven by Hammy Hua, smashed into him and the rear of his pickup truck. The car that hit Jose Prudent continued to skid for approximately 100 yards, and then went off the road to halt in a grassy area. The driver of the car, reported as Hammy Hua, exited the vehicle and fled at a run from the scene of the Sugar Land DUI hit & run crash.
An airlift conveyed Jose Prudent in critical condition to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where doctors had to amputate an arm and a leg. A female victim of the Sugar Land DUI hit & run crash received treatment for minor injuries.
News accounts state that authorities arrested Hammy Hua, 23, at his residence in Sheldrake Court's 400 block. Officers charged Hammy Hua with felony counts of intoxication assault and failure to stop and render aid. Further charges remain pending.
