Street Racing May Have Caused a Fatal Crash

A street race between two cars in West Houston may have caused the death of a passenger in the front seat of one of the cars. At about 11:00 p.m. on June 9, 2010, a car hit a tree in a Park Row neighborhood located near Highway 6. The driver and a backseat passenger survived, but were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Witnesses told the police that they saw two cars racing in the Park Row neighborhood. Witnesses also observed a patrol car following the two cars as they raced. The witnesses saw the other car and the patrol car leave the scene after the accident. The police did confirm that a Precinct 5 deputy constable was the driver of the patrol car seen at the accident. The patrol car’s presence at the wreck is under investigation. Residents commented that street racing is common in the area.
