Speeding Pickup Truck Crashes into Sergeant's Patrol Truck in Harris Co.
Posted on Nov 05, 2011
Friday in NW Harris County at the intersection of FM 1960 and Treschwig Road, a speeding pickup truck slammed into a crime scene patrol truck at a red light. The sergeant driving the patrol truck, from the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said he saw the pickup truck approaching him at a high rate of speed, but that he couldn't move out of the way without hitting the vehicle in front of him.
According to news accounts, the Harris County sergeant bravely held on and faced the wreck. The sergeant received transport to the hospital for minor injuries from the two-vehicle wreck. News reports say that authorities took the driver of the pickup truck into custody to be tested for alcohol.
The staff at the law offices of Denena & Points is pleased to learn that the sergeant survived the wreck with only minor injuries and we wish him a smooth and rapid recovery. We laud him for the bravery that kept him standing fast in the face of a certain wreck in order to avoiding injuring others with his own vehicle. We're saddened when one of our Harris County law enforcement officers suffers such needless injury from a negligent, possibly drunken, driver when the officer's own goal is to serve and protect.
This incident represents the third one we've come across in a week where a speeding driver slammed right into a law enforcement vehicle. The other two reported incidents clearly labeled the reckless drivers as drunk. We suspect this driver might have been intoxicated as well, since sober drivers generally try to avoid having wrecks with marked law enforcement vehicles.
