Seven Officers Disciplined for Houston DWI Crash Cover-Up
Posted on Oct 18, 2011
Seven Houston police officers are receiving disciplinary action for their involvement in a Houston car crash in April in which a vehicle crashed into a bus. The car in the accident was being driven by a Houston police officer who was drunk at the time of the incident.
Sergeant Ruben Trejo, the officer who crashed into the bus, was fired from the Houston police department on August 19th. Now 7 other officers, including an assistant police chief, have been disciplined for the way they handled the Houston DWI crash.
After the accident, bus driver Teresa Argueta was cited for failure to yield. However, she was outraged, claiming that the other driver was drunk. After further investigation, it was determined that Sgt. Trejo was indeed driving under the influence of alcohol. He reportedly had a BAC of 0.176, more than twice the legal limit.
Two of the officers involved in the improper handling of the case received suspension without pay. Another received a written reprimand. The fate of the remaining officers has not yet been publicized.
Argueta received a dismissal for her ticket.
