Porsche Recalls New Cars for Potentially Dangerous Seat Belts

Porsche issued a recall on some of its 2011 and 2012 model year vehicles manufactured between May 31, 2011 and June 19, 2011. The recall relates to a defect in the seat belt anchor system. You can find a complete list of affected models here at the NHTSA website.
The recall announcement says that the mounting holes in the seat belt anchor plates fitted to these vehicles might be too small. And if the hole diameters are too small, then the anchor plates might not be able to rotate around the fastening bolts as they were designed to do. The announcement says that this defect allows the possibilities that:
* The seat belt may not rotate properly around the car occupant for a secure fit; and
* The seat belt could potentially loosen from its anchor, increasing the risk of injuries and vehicle ejection should you have a car crash in The Woodlands, TX.
Porsche said it would notify owners of the affected vehicles, and they could bring their cars into the dealerships. The dealers would inspect the seat belt anchor systems, and replace the seat belts if necessary, without charge.
