Volkswagens Under U.S. Review for Faulty Fuel-Pumps
The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is reviewing Volkswagen vehicles after reports of engine stalls. Some of these engine stalls have been taking place at highway speed. Imagine that! Driving 70 miles per hour down the highway and your car just stalls without warning. So far there have been 160 complaints recieved with one reported accident.
The NHTSA is reviewing model years 2009 and 2010 of the Volkswagen Jetta and Golf and the Audi A3 that have TDI clean-diesel engines, totaling about 97,272 vehicles. The power loss and stalling is being linked at this time to high-pressure pumps failing and contaminating the fule system with debris, the agency said.
The NHTSA regulator has upgraded the investigation to an "engineering analysis," a step that can lead to a recall.
