NW Houston Nightclub Altercation leads to Hit & Run & Fatal Crash

A man driving a blue pickup truck was about to leave the EL Chaparral nightclub in NW Houston about 2 a.m. this morning when he became involved in an altercation with several people in the parking lot. He tried to flee the confrontation.
As the driver of the blue pickup was leaving, he ran over one of these men in the parking lot. News accounts did not make it completely clear whether the hit and run was intentional. The victim of the hit and run received transport to the hospital where he is expected to recover.
Very shortly thereafter, an officer heard what sounded like gunshots at an intersection not far from the nightclub. Then the driver of the blue pickup truck, westbound on Hempstead near Dacoma, lost control of the truck and slammed into a utility pole. The crash sent the blue pickup truck into multiple rollovers. The driver received fatal injuries in the accident.
Investigators indicated that they believed the driver of the blue pickup truck to be intoxicated, but they did not state whether the driver had also been shot before losing control of his vehicle and crashing. Their investigation of the hit and run and fatal rollover incident remains ongoing.
