Nissan Announces Recall of its Popular Altima for Steering Bolt Defect
Posted on Aug 19, 2011
The NHTSA reports a Nissan recall of approximately 20,000 of its Nissan Altima sedans for a possible loose transverse link bolt. The company says that the bolt may not be tightened according to specifications. The bolt can become loose during driving. A loose bolt may cause rattling and vibration. It may also come loose from the steering column, causing drivers to lose control of their vehicles and wreck.
The recall affects 2011 and 2012 models manufactured at Nissan's Canton, MS plant between April 25, 2011 and June 10, 2011. Nissan says it will replace the bolts and tighten them to specifications in the recalled Nissan Altima sedans. The Nissan recall announcement says that no injuries or deaths have been reported from the auto defect. But the announcement does not say how Nissan became aware of the problem or what caused these particular transverse link bolts to be improperly tightened.
