Nine Injured in a Car Wreck in the Port Bolivar Ferry Line

Posted on Jul 05, 2010

Nine people sustained injuries in a collision at the end of the Port Bolivar ferry Line. Fortunately, no one was killed in the accident.

The wreck occurred when the driver of a Toyota Scion rear-ended a Ford F-250 pickup while it was at a standstill waiting to cross the Galveston Bay to Galveston in a westbound lane of Highway 87. A Dodge Magnum then rear-ended the Toyota.

A police officer reported that distracted driving caused the accident. The driver of the Toyota crashed into the pick up when the driver bent down to reach for something in the vehicle. The police officer speculated that the driver of the Dodge crashed into the Toyota, because there was insufficient distance between the two vehicles. Four people were airlifted to a hospital and ground ambulances transported five people to the hospital.

Our thoughts go out to the people involved in this Galveston car wreck and we wish them a speedy recovery.
