Posted on Oct 24, 2011
North Sam Houston Parkway experienced another tragic, fatal tollbooth wreck on Saturday night about 11:30 p.m. The westbound driver of a 2007 Chevy Silverado failed to slow down as he approached a tollbooth in the 3300 block of the tollway.
Barry Lewis Andrews, 56, the driver of the Silverado, plowed into the back of a Pontiac Grand Am in line to pay the toll. This rear-end crash in turn caused the Grand Am to ram into the car in line ahead of it.
Two related passengers of the Grand Am, sister and brother Erica and Nick Montez, received fatal injuries from the fatal tollbooth wreck. One died at the site of the fatal tollbooth wreck and one died later at the hospital. According to news accounts, ultimately five vehicles became tangled in the fatal tollbooth wreck.
The driver of the Chevy Silverado received transport to a hospital for his own injuries from the fatal tollbooth wreck. Tests performed on his blood found a blood alcohol content at TWICE the legal limit in Texas. Barry Lewis Andrews is expected to receive transport to jail for two charges of felony intoxication manslaughter upon his release from the hospital.
