Michael Anthony Flores Charged in Fatal I-45 Overpass Wreck
Posted on Oct 16, 2011
Police arrested Michael Anthony Flores, 37, and charged him with intoxication manslaughter and with failure to stop and render aid after a fatal I-45 overpass wreck in North Houston. Michael Anthony Flores' red GMC Sierra pickup truck smashed into a disabled Chevy truck parked on the shoulder of I-45 near West Mount Houston Road around 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
A 25-year-old man had been working on the engine of the disabled Chevy with the hood up when Michael Flores rear-ended the parked vehicle at high speed. The force of the truck collision threw the 25-year-old man away from the front of the Chevy and over a barrier to fall more than 30 feet from the overpass to the frontage road below.
The man, whose name was not released, died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. A female passenger inside the Chevy, believed to be the victim's wife, did not suffer any injuries. All southbound lanes of the I-45 North Freeway remained shut down because of the fatal I-45 overpass wreck until late in the evening.
Michael Anthony Flores attempted to flee the scene of the fatal I-45 overpass wreck on foot. An off-duty officer caught Michael Anthony Flores at a nearby Shell gas station. Houston PD Lt. Parris Ponton stated that Michael Anthony Flores smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech at the time of his arrest. One news headline reported this story as a "4-vehicle accident" but does not mention any involved vehicles beyond Michael Anthony Flores' GMC Sierra pickup and the victim's disabled Chevy.
Tony Denena and Chad Points offer their condolences to the bereaved widow, family and friend of the young man tragically and fatally injured in this fatal I-45 overpass wreck by Michael Anthony Flores' reckless and intoxicated driving. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
