Joyriding by inexperienced or unlicensed drivers can easily cause dangerous Texas car accidents. This week, one of these accidents was fatal.
According to police, a 14-year-old boy identified as Enrique Pineda was killed when the car he was driving, which he took without permission from his brother for a joyride, crashed in southwest Houston.
Pineda was driving after midnight on Friday at the intersection of Valley View Lane and Mahoning Drive when he lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a tree and caused the car to rollover.
Pineda was killed in the accident. Two boys and two girls were also in the car, all of whom were picked up from the scene by one of the teen's mother, who also contacted the police.
Three of the kids were later taken to Ben Taub General Hospital to be checked for injury. The mother of one of the teens took her son to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital.
It is still unknown if charges will be filed against the teens that left the scene of the accident, leaving only Pineda there when police showed up, or against the mother for taking them away.
Our sympathies go out to all of those affected by this tragic accident. We hope this serves as an unfortunate reminder of the dangers of teen joyriding.
