Important GM Recall for Seatbelt Failure in Occupant Crash Protection
Posted on Nov 29, 2011
General Motors has issued a recall on thousands of 2012 model year Chevrolet Colorado vehicles and GM Canyon vehicles. The vehicles subject to the GM recall were manufactured from September 9, 2011 through October 19, 2011.
These GM recalled vehicles endanger your safety. They fail to comply with federally mandated standards regarding vehicle occupant crash protection because of a seatbelt connection defect. The GM recall results because of front seatbelt buckle electrical connector terminal that don't fit snugly with the connector pins. This means that the seatbelt's safety connection is only intermittent.
What this means is that the car won't give you the customary audio or visual warning that your seatbelt isn't fastened. So you may unwittingly drive off with an unfastened seatbelt. If you should then experience a car crash and be ejected from your vehicle, your chances of catastrophic injury and death from the wreck are vastly increased.
GM says the company will notify owners with vehicles subject to this GM recall. GMC dealers will replace the seatbelt buckles' electrical connector terminals for free. The GM recall number is 11322.
