Houston police officer on motorcycle injured trying to avoid truck
Posted on Dec 24, 2011
The Houston Chronicle reported a Houston motorcycle accident that injured a Houston police officer. The accident occurred Thursday when a truck cut the officer off at Almeda Genoa near the Gulf Freeway service road. The officer had been eastbound on Almeda Genoa and tried to turn on to the service road during the afternoon rush hour. He laid his motorcycle down to avoid an accident with the truck.
The officer was able to successfully jump off the bike, which slid another 40 or 50 feet after he laid it down. The officer received transport to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The news account does not state whether a mild traumatic brain injury, a common occurrence in survivable motorcycle accidents, might have been among the officer's injuries.
Our Houston motorcycle accident lawyers are relieved to hear that the officer's quick reactions enabled him to survive the accident with non-life threatening injuries, though we know that such injuries can still be quite serious. We convey our best wishes for a full and successful recovery to the Houston police officer.
