Houston Police Department Officer Injured in Collision with School Bus
Posted on Apr 21, 2011
An HPD officer was involved in an accident with a school bus this week, starting a controversy about who is to blame in the crash and if there was drunk driving involved.
The officer, an as-yet unnamed sergeant, was on his way to work in a pickup truck when he collided with a school bus in the 7900 block of Harrisburg in East Houston, TX.
The officer was injured in the accident, but no children were on board at the time of the crash. An HPD spokesperson said that the bus driver ran a stop sign to cause the accident, but other witnesses at the scene say that it was the officer that did.
There is also contention over whether the officer had been drinking. Witnesses said that the officer smelled drunk and had beer and wine bottles open in his car, contending that other officers responding to the scene threw a towel over them.
HPD said that the containers were not open and the officer was not drunk. The sergeant was taken away on a stretcher but is expected to be all right.
