Houston Motorcycle Officer Escorting Truck Injured When Cable Snagged

Houston, TX, October 27, 2011: An off-duty motorcycle officer, I.E. Rodriguez, was escorting a truck with an oversized load. He received injuries when the truck's load snagged a low-hanging overhead optics cable just before 2 p.m. The motorcycle accident occurred on Wayside at Avenue R.
Motorcycle Officer Rodriguez was engaged in holding back traffic for the 18-wheeler and its oversized load when the oversized load caught on the low-hanging optics cable. The cable then snapped and struck Officer Rodriguez. Officer I.E. Rodriguez was knocked from his motorcycle by the impact.
Motorcycle Officer Rodriguez, who was using his own bike for the escort detail, received transport to Ben Taub hospital for his injuries. Reports say that Officer Rodriguez is conscious and alert and his injuries are non-life threatening.
