Houston Man Killed in Alcohol-Related Crash
Posted on Oct 08, 2010
Houston Police are investigating whether alcohol played a role in a deadly crash that claimed the life of an area man.
The single-vehicle wreck occurred last Friday October 1 at around 11 p.m. It took place on Kirby near San Felipe in southwest Houston.
Witnesses say the driver sped up to beat a red light and hit a median before skidding and slamming into a tree. The driver, who is said to be a 38-year-old man, was thrown from his vehicle upon impact.
The man was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, but was pronounced dead after he arrived there.
Investigators say the victim was not wearing a seat belt and may have been drunk at the time of the crash. While police are factoring in alcohol, neighbors say the lighting at the intersection may be to blame as well.
Authorities have not yet released the victim's name. Our sympathies go out to all of those affected by this accident.
