Head-on Collision near Houston Kills 1 and Injures Other Victims
Posted on Aug 15, 2011
News reports say that on August 14, 2011, the driver of a Dodge half-ton pickup truck was traveling eastbound on South Loop 336. That driver crashed head-on into a westbound Nissan Altima resulting in a fatal wreck on South Loop 336. Reportedly, the driver of the Dodge pickup truck recklessly attempted to pass other eastbound cars when he collided head-on with the westbound vehicle. Reports say that the driver of the Nissan attempted to avoid the Dodge pickup truck but died instantly when the two vehicles collided. The Dodge driver has critical injuries, and passengers of the Nissan Altima also suffered injuries from the wreck. A passenger in the Dodge pickup truck remained unharmed after the wreck.
Police say that they will pursue an intoxication investigation of the head-on collision. The reckless driving of the Dodge pickup driver apparently suggests the possibility that alcohol may have been a factor in the fatal wreck on South Loop 336. Reckless behavior and impaired decision-making capacity are hallmarks of intoxication. But some drivers behave recklessly and make poor decisions when sober too. So the police have not yet definitively attributed the head-on collision to alcohol. If their investigation yields positive results, then that attribution would likely change.
We laud the heroic driver of the Nissan Altima who attempted to evade the reckless pickup driver. While this attempt may not have saved the Nissan's driver, it may well have saved the Nissan's passengers. Our sympathies go out to the family and friends of the Nissan's driver and passengers at this time. We hope for a full recovery of these injured passengers so that their driver's heroism and life lost need not have been in vain.
