Girl, 8, Dies in West Houston Car Wreck

Posted on Jun 17, 2011

An eight-year-old girl was killed in a single-vehicle W. Houston, TX car accident this week.

According to police, a white Chevrolet Yukon was traveling southbound in the 3000 block of North Eldridge Parkway just after 8 p.m. on Sunday evening when the crash occurred.

The driver of the Yukon, a man whose name has not been released, tried to stop due to traffic and lost control of the vehicle. The car skidded off the road, went over a guardrail and slid several yards down an embankment before coming to a stop.

During the crash, the 8-year-old girl riding in the Yukon was ejected from the vehicle. She was taken with life-threatening injuries to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital.

The girl, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her name is being verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Our sympathies go out to the family of the girl and all of those deeply affected by this tragic accident.
