Concrete Truck Strikes, Kills Motorcyclist in Houston Hit-and-Run
Posted on Sep 30, 2011
A father of eight was tragically killed in a La Marque hit-and-run motorcycle accident. He sustained fatal injuries when his 2000 Yamaha was struck by a concrete truck around 5 a.m. on September 12, 2011.
The victim, identified as Wallace Trexler, 53, of Santa Fe, was a refinery worker for BP and a youth sports coach.
The accident happened near the southbound entrance of I-45 in the 200 block of Delaney.
Police were originally unsure what had happened during the incident. This quickly changed after the police found that the entire incident was captured on video. Police were able to identify the vehicle that hit Trexler as a Kelso Concrete company truck. According to the video, the man driving the truck stopped after hitting Trexler and pulled the bike out of the street before continuing to drive away. This was proof to the detectives that the man knew exactly what he did.
After reviewing the tape further, detectives were able to identify the man driving the concrete truck as Stephen Loyd Hudetts, 60. He was turning left onto I-45 when he hit Trexler. In addition to the original surveillance tape, a camera inside a hotel also helped investigators verify the event. Hudetts surrendered to La Marque Police shortly after the accident.
Hudetts was charged with an accident involving serious bodily injury or death, and his bond was set at $25,000. He was released after spending only one day in jail. If convicted, Stephen Hudetts may face two to ten years in jail and fines of up to $10,000. He was also fired from his job with the concrete company.
We at Denena and Points send our deepest condolences to the Trexler family.
