CA company recalls insulated lunch box for poisonous freezer gel leak
Posted on Jan 24, 2012
Houston product defect lawyers pass along this important news about the recall of a dangerous and potentially deadly product. California Innovations Inc. announced a recall of nearly 250,000 of its Ci Sport expandable, 3-piece insulated lunch box sets. The sets comprise a lunch box, an aluminum beverage bottle, and a freezer gel pack.
The freezer gel contains diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol, both of which are poisonous if ingested. The company made the voluntary recall due to worries that poisonous chemicals could leak from damaged freezer gel packs and contaminate foods inside the lunch boxes. The company has already received reports of two dogs that sickened after chewing on the lunch boxes, damaging the gel packs, and ingesting the chemicals. One of them died and the other is recovering after receiving treatment.
The CPSC said that the affected lunch boxes were sold at Costco Wholesale Clubs, Leon Korol, and Cost U Less between May 2007 and September 2008 for around $10. Our Houston product defect lawyers recommend that you discard any Ci Sport insulated lunch boxes subject to the recall if you own them. There are many ways the freezer gel packs could be damaged. And no one wants poisonous chemicals leaking into their own or their child's lunch from a dangerous product.
