Big Rig Driver Causes Accidents on FM 66 Biker Memorial Ride; 1 Injured

Posted on Nov 21, 2011

Near Waxahachie, TX on Saturday on FM 66, a memorial bike ride in honor of fallen rider Dana Wiser narrowly avoided providing the occasion of further memorial rides. A truck driver apparently ignored the right of way of the riders and suddenly pulled his 18-wheeler out in front of an oncoming group of bikers, stopping in their path.

One motorcyclist, James Briggs, said he had to lay his bike down to avoid a collision. Basically, he had to engage in a controlled wreck to avoid a far worse wreck. Another rider, Bobby Slavik of Ennis, had to swerve to miss the 1st motorcycle accident involving the lead group of bikers. He crashed into an Ellis County law enforcement vehicle parked on the side of FM 66 and received injuries and transport to a medical center in Waxahachie. Mr. Slavik was part of the 80-rider memorial for Dana Wiser.

After the truck driver had caused injury and mayhem among the group pf motorcycle riders, the truck pulled away and continued on its journey. In news accounts of the motorcycle accident, James Briggs appeared shocked by what he had witnessed in the truck driver's actions. Texas DPS is conducting an investigation into the motorcycle accident. The name of the truck driver was not yet known at the time of the news reports.

The motorcycle accident lawyers at Denena & Points are also taken aback by the truck driver's negligence and seemingly callous disregard for safety on the road. We wish Mr. Bobby Slavik a quick and uneventful recovery from his injuries. Our thoughts are with all of the motorcyclists harmed by the truck driver's actions as they made their poker ride for their fallen friend.
