4 ex-NFL players living in Atlanta sue the league for brain injuries

Posted on Dec 23, 2011

Dorsey Levens, Jamal Lewis, Fulton Kuykendall, and Ryan Stewart recently joined others who've already filed several lawsuits against the NFL. These four players allege in their lawsuit against the NFL that the league knew of the dangers posed by repeated concussions but did little to protect them from these dangers.

Our Clear Lake motorcycle accident lawyers note that the dangers of traumatic brain injury (tbi) from concussions received from sports, motorcycle wrecks, and other causes have come into increasing focus in recent years. The heightened focus relates to the depression, degenerative disorders, and controversial deaths of several major sports figures that have surfaced over the past several years.

Their lawsuit against the NFL alleges that the league knew of the dangers posed by concussions since the 1920s but in contrast to other sports that sideline injured players for long periods of time, often sent them back into the very same games in which they had received their concussions. The NFL maintains that it places a primary emphasis on safety.

According to news reports read by our Clear Lake motorcycle accident lawyers, the players' lawsuit claims that the NFL knew for decades of the dangers posed by traumatic brain injuries received in the games and practices but only went public about the dangers last year. Players claim that the league misled and mislead them regarding the dangers of tbi from concussions. The NFL claims that it has a record of working to further understanding of sports injuries and sports medicine.

The 4 players filing the lawsuit played multiple seasons in the NFL. Now retired from the game of football, they claim to suffer from a host of medical problems from their days on the field. The problems include sleeplessness, memory loss, and headaches. The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and as yet unspecified damages.
