3 Porter High School Teens Killed & 2 Injured by Deadly Rollover Wreck
Posted on Sep 30, 2011
Osbaldo Avila, 18, Juan Manual Velasquez, 17, and Jose Ambento Arreola, 17, suffered fatal injuries from a tragic wreck in Porter, TX on a narrow stretch of southbound Sorters Road near North Plantation Estates Drive. Two other teens from Porter High School in New Caney ISD, Joel Alarcon, 17, and Julian Avila, 16, received treatment for injuries from the tragic wreck at a hospital and were released.
The teens lost control of their Honda Accord, and went off the road. The driver overcorrected, and the car hit a tree, then flipped over. A witness said that the car had been speeding at the time of the devastating rollover accident, which occurred about 3:30 p.m.
Kelley Mattlage, a spokeswoman for New Caney ISD, said that the stretch of road where the accident occurred presents dangers because it has lots of turns. The road at the point where the accident happened is narrow and has no shoulders. Ms. Mattlage said that the school district hears many unfortunate reports of students having accidents on that stretch of road. Grief counselors and a "quiet room" for mourning have been made available to the stricken students at Porter High School in east Montgomery County to help them cope with the loss of their classmates.
We have been saddened to see the loss of so many young lives recently in Houston area traffic accidents. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and friends, and all of those mourning the tragic loss of 3 young lives from New Porter High School.
