Posted on Feb 25, 2011

Two people were left dead after a drunk driver plowed through the opposing lanes of traffic on Texas 62 this week. The deadly wreck occurred just after 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16th, 2011.

Thirty-two-year-old Joshua Wayne Durden was driving on Highway 62 when he swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic. A car carrying two men then swerved to avoid him, hitting another car.

The two men, 40-year-old Guillermo Saldana Garcia of Baytown, and 45-year-old Andres Cornejo Benitez of Houston, were killed in the wreck. The driver of the third car, who has not yet been identified, was taken to a nearby hospital.

Durden was taken to the Orange County Jail after the accident, charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter, one count of intoxication assault and failure to stop and render aid. His bond has been set at $1.5 million.

Durden has a long criminal history. He has already been arrested nine times, for charges including criminal mischief, burglary, unlawful carrying of a weapon and forgery.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of the car accident victims, as well as all of those involved in the wreck.
