18-wheeler driver trying to parallel park lands truck in Houston ditch

Posted on Jan 12, 2012

Houston truck accident lawyers note a different sort of truck wreck that happened yesterday. Fortunately no one was injured by this crash, no fires erupted, and no hazardous cargo spilled. This SE Houston truck accident simply provides an illustration of the dangers associated with trying to parallel park something as massive as an 18-wheeler.

Heck, it's difficult enough to parallel park an ordinary passenger car. Just imagine trying to back and parallel park an 18-wheeler with its massive blind spots and tremendous momentum.

The truck driver apparently tried to take a spot along the street in front of Produce Row early yesterday morning. A slight miscalculation had massive consequences when the truck went over the edge of a ditch alongside the street. The fall into the ditch flipped the 18-wheeler over onto its side.

The truck was carrying recycled clothing, which might now be less-than-gently used. The truck leaked a bit of diesel fuel into the ditch. But the truck driver remained uninjured, except perhaps for his pride, after the unsuccessful parallel parking attempt. No one else was injured by the sudden slip and flip of the 18-wheeler.

Our Houston truck accident lawyers are glad to hear that the truck driver did not suffer injuries in the wreck. We pass along the story of his less than successful parallel parking attempt to caution readers against trying to parallel park anything so massive and heavy as a cargo-laden 18-wheeler. Indeed, we know of several people who've not attempted parallel parking since their driver's test. For many, that may be the wisest course. Drive safe; park safe.
