Truck drivers that are too tired to be behind the wheel of a big rig cause needless deaths and catastrohpic injuries all over Texas and the rest of the country. Despite the obvious risks in pushing their drivers to the brink of exhaustion and beyond the major carriers continue to engage in this dangerous activity. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has as one of its functions the regulation and management of the trucking industry. Currently, the agency is going through the process of looking into whether changes are needed to the current hours of service regulations. These regulations govern how much time a particular driver can spend behind the wheel and how much time they must be in non-driving mode. Recently the FMCSA made the decision to include four additional studies in the officla docket for a proposed change to the Hours of Service Notice of Propose Rulemaking.

Essentially, all four studies reach the conclusion that current regulations are not strong enough to reduce the number of horrible accidents caused by tired 18-wheeler drivers and bus drivers. This is great news for the public. Against strong push-back and objections by the trucking industry the FMCSA seems to be showing a new level of committment to getting tired truckers off of the roads and highways of Texas and the rest of the country.
