When hospitals add insult & expense to your Texas car crash injury

Our Texas City accident lawyers read an account from KHOU regarding an incident where a Texas City hospital reportedly hiked its bill for medical expenses from $4,500 to $20,211 after a woman received an insurance settlement from a car crash.

It's not that unusual for various parties to try and take a slice out of the pie after there's a major insurance settlement. Hospitals might claim any number of reasons to try and justify the price hike on the accident victim's medical expenses.

The woman who received the greatly increased bill for her medical expenses had been the victim of a car crash caused by someone driving the wrong way on the road. She reportedly spent four hours at a Texas City hospital for examinations and diagnostic tests after the wrong-way crash.

The accident victim has filed a lawsuit against the Texas City hospital claiming that the medical facility increased its bill for her medical expenses by five times and made a claim against her insurance settlement. She believes, as many folks might, that $20,211 is an unreasonable amount to charge for four hours at a hospital.

I have heard of other horror stories like this from victims of car crashes that end up paying huge hospital bills that are unjustified. Is it actually legal to sudden raise the fees after finding out that the woman is receiving an insurance payout?
