The Toll Road that Rage Takes on Innocent Lives

In a Petronila, Texas road rage incident on August 3, 2011, a wife targeted her fleeing spouse for revenge after a domestic dispute. Most road rage incidents get attributed to men, but in domestic dispute cases, both genders might be motivated to inordinate rage. This woman did not seem to care that her own baby and elderly aunt were also in her vehicle when she chased down her husband's car and tried to cut him off on the road. Instead, she ran her vehicle into a utility pole and then into a ditch, where it rolled over. According to the report, the baby and aunt weren't wearing seatbelts. The impact hurled the aunt from the SUV. The overturned vehicle had her trapped underneath for almost an hour. The Jaws of Life extracted her; then Halo flight took her to the hospital. The baby suffered head injuries, scrapes and bruises. The husband was uninjured by his wife's road rage. The wife received a ticket, but there was no arrest.

In another incident, which was widely reported in the national news at the time it occurred, Andrew Burnett, angry after a stranger's car bumped into his, accosted the young woman in her vehicle. When their exchange escalated into an argument beside a busy California highway, the man reached into the woman's car and scooped out her 10-year-old bichon frisé dog. He then threw that innocent animal into the onrushing highway traffic, where it perished.

In both of these incidents, there is absolutely no excuse for the road ragers' heinous, immature, and ridiculous behavior. Heavy traffic and other drivers' poor judgment can be more than annoying; there's no doubt about that.
