The Dos and Don’ts of a Galveston Car Crash

Perhaps you are reading this because you have been involved in car crash in Houston, Galveston or the surrounding areas. Or maybe you are just educating yourself about what you should do in case you are ever in an accident, because chances are, you will be in at least one auto accident in your lifetime. By arming yourself with education, you could increase the likelihood that you will obtain the compensation you deserve in a Texas auto accident case.

If you have been, or are ever involved in a car wreck in Texas, you need to remember the following:

DO
  • Contact the police and file a police report.
  • Take note of the other driver's information, such as their name, telephone number, license number and insurance information. This should not be necessary if a police report is taken at the scene.
  • Take photos. Use your camera phone or even draw a diagram of how the accident scene looks. Make sure the diagram drawn on the police report is accurate.
  • Seek medical attention. Even if you do not feel injured, it may still be wise to see a doctor.
  • Report the accident to your insurance company.
  • Order your FREE copy of the book, What Every Houston Accident Victim Needs to Know, written by the Galveston car wreck lawyers at Denena & Points

DON'T
  • Leave the accident scene. Wait until the police have taken your statement and have given you permission to leave.
  • Admit responsibility. Never say that you were at fault, even if you think you were. There may have been other contributing factors to the accident that you are unaware of.
  • Sign anything until you have spoken to a Galveston personal injury attorney.
Give a recorded statement. You are not obligated to give recorded statements, so don't do it. Anything you say can - and will - be used against you.

If you have been involved in a Galveston car wreck, it doesn't hurt to contact an attorney. The Galveston accident injury lawyers at Denena & Points offer free consultations. We will let you know whether you have a case and whether or not you need to seek the counsel of an attorney to move forward with your case. Contact our office at 877-307-9500 to learn more about your options.
