Texas Chain-Reaction Vehicle Crashes Taking High Toll on Texas Youths
Recent Texas Chain-Reaction Vehicle Crashes Seem to be Taking a Disproportionately High Toll on the Young People of Texas
Just a couple of days ago, a school bus ran into the back of a pickup truck stopped at a red light. Then a few more vehicles ran into the stopped school bus and each other. 13 people, including 10 students from the school bus, ended up in the hospital with injuries from this Texas chain-reaction wreck.
A few days before that, in another Texas chain-reaction wreck, one young man was killed and another critically injured when the pickup truck they were in rolled over several times on I-10 after a failed attempt to take an off ramp. Then a drunk driver smashed head-on into a police car parked at the scene to investigate the accident. Then a sober driver ran into the drunk driver's wayward vehicle.
Texas A&M just released its 2011 Urban Mobility Report. Report data showed that Texas hosts several of the most traffic-congested cities in the nation. The traffic congestion, combined with factors like
* Aggressive driving,
* Street racing, and
* Drunk driving
Ensure a hazardous trip for anyone on or even near our roadways.
I've been noticing more accidents lately that lead to multi-vehicle chain-reaction wrecks. I've also been noticing more vehicle accidents of all types, including fatal hit-and-run incidents, taking their toll on our children and young people.
Texas traffic is becoming increasingly difficult to safely navigate when stone cold sober. The high incidence of accident reports involving drunk drivers indicates that Texas traffic conditions certainly present too great of a challenge for the impaired driver.
Back in the day, the prominent Texas trends consisted of big hair and big spending. Now the trends involve street racing and drunk driving. Maybe we could make a commitment to a positive Texas image and positive trends. And give our young people a better chance to grow up and grow old safely.
