STUDY: Drowsy Driving More Common Than Expected

Many people have gotten behind the wheel when they feel tired or very drowsy. Most will even tell you that it is dangerous and that you shouldn't do it, in an effort to help avoid Houston car accidents.

However, a new study from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows just how common Houston drowsy driving  may be. The study found that:

  • Two out of every five drivers in the US (41%) admitted to falling asleep at the wheel at some point.

  • 25% of people say they have driven in the past month even when they had trouble keeping their eyes open.

  • 10% say they have fallen asleep behind the wheel at least once in the last 12 months.

The study also showed a link between drowsy driving and dangerous car wrecks, suggesting that Houston drowsy driving car accidents may be more dangerous than expected. The study found that:

  • One out of every six fatal car wrecks involved a drowsy driver.

  • One out of every eight crashes that resulted in hospitalization involved a drowsy driver.

  • One out of every fourteen accidents in which a vehicle was towed involved a drowsy driver.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a Houston car wreck that you believe may have been caused by a drowsy or fatigued driver, you should call a Houston car accident attorney right away.

An experienced attorney may be able to help you receive financial compensation after a wreck with a negligent driver, but you need to file a claim in order to do so. Call the Houston car accident lawyers of Denena & Points before it is too late. (877) 307-9500.
