Safe-stealing suspects create a safety hazard on Southwest Freeway

I think that if I were on the police force instead of a Houston accident injury lawyer, having the chance to nab suspects this inept might make my day. First the 3 suspects broke into a home armed with a high tech alarm system. The alarm went off and notified the homeowner, and no doubt the alarm company and police as well.

The 3 suspects made off with a safe from the home and put it in the trunk of their car. Police gave chase and followed them north on the Southwest Freeway about 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The 3 safe-stealing suspects bailed out of their car near the Dunlavy exit and decided to try and make good their escape on foot. Police quickly nabbed one suspect, perhaps the more sensible one. The other two men, who clearly don't spend much time on safety issues, darted across the freeway, but were soon apprehended as well.

As the chase proceeded, the abandoned car of the 3 safe-stealing suspects burst into flames. Police managed to extract the safe from the car's trunk before it burned along with the vehicle.

While this was going on, the homeowner, who had rushed towards home after hearing of the break-in, sat in stalled traffic on the freeway watching the would-be getaway car burn to a cinder.

There's a "safe" in "safety," but not in this tale. The 3 suspects in this story don't seem to have much regard for anyone's safety. They rob a house without de-activating the alarm, thereby ensuring their entry won't go unnoticed. They use a fire hazard of a vehicle as their getaway car. They lead police on a high-speed chase through freeway traffic. Then they abandon their fiery vehicle. And they try to flee police in patrol cars on foot across several lanes of freeway. Then their get-not-quite-away car goes up in flames, posing a safety hazard to all.

This tale of unsafe safe thieves presents an example of the many odd and unexpected hazards you could face on any day here in greater Houston.
