Pearland, TX Truck Lawyers on Unsafe Ford F-150 Pickup Truck and Gas Tank Strap Recall

When you buy a product, you'd like to believe that the product is fit for its intended purpose. While many people receive injuries in their car, those are usually from traffic accidents, either major or minor. You don't expect to suffer serious burns because your gas tank suddenly drops out of your truck, ruptures, and ignites. Yet, according to Ford Motor Company spokesman Wes Sherwood, that's what happened to one occupant of the popular Ford F-150. Our hearts go out to the unfortunate victim who suffered first and second degree burns from a fire ignited when the gas tank simply fell out of the truck.

Fortunately, we have not heard of any other major injuries caused by this gas tank problem. But the NHTSA report on the Ford F-150 numbers nearly 250 incidents where the gas tank suddenly dropped out of the vehicle. Several fires resulted, and some fires ignited the rest of the truck. According to the report, this odd problem results from corrosion caused by road salts used in winter. Exposure to the salts corrodes the metal straps that are supposed to hold the fuel tank securely to the pickup.

Now, we all know that it snows heavily in some places during the winter. And materials engineers should have a pretty good knowledge of how metals corrode, and which metals suffer corrosion from salts. Truck purchasers would like to believe that truck designers considered such things while creating their vehicles, and that their pickups are safe to use.

If you own a defective vehicle, Texas lemon laws provide help for obtaining repairs and restitution from the manufacturer. The U.S. Uniform Commercial Code and the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act also feature provisions designed to help the consumer who's purchased a defective product. When a product defect has progressed beyond mere nuisance value and has actually injured you, you may be able to claim compensation for your losses from the manufacturer or vendor of the product.

At Denena & Points, we've faced down all the major automakers on behalf of our clients. Ford, GM, and Chrysler have all heard our names. We've helped clients who had unwittingly purchased defective vehicles, and clients who'd been injured because of unsafe autos. We could help you too. If you've been injured because of an unsafe vehicle, or a manufacturer is giving you trouble over a defective truck or auto you purchased, give us a call. We might just be able to get you some justice.
