Galveston Truck Wreck Attorney | Big Rig Injuries

The other day I was driving down the Gulf Freeway toward Galveston when I noticed that I was surrounded by two 18-wheelers.  As soon as I was able to drive safely away from the two big rigs, I started thinking about the devastation these large trucks cause due to overly aggressive operators.  I wondered whether law enforcement agencies were doing anything try and curb the number of large truck caused injuries and fatalities on US interstates, particularly in the Houston area.

The next day, I did some research on the FMCSA website, and happened upon the TACT program which stands for Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks program.  The program is designed to educate motorists about the dangers of unsafe driving behaviors committed by cars around trucks, trucks around trucks, and trucks around other types of motor vehicles.  It identified several common unsafe driving behaviors of which to make yourself aware in order to avoid becoming a statistic.

Unsafe lane changes
Tailgating

Failing to signal lane changes

Failing to yield the right of way

Speeding

Aggressive driving

There are several things you can do to avoid a big rig disaster in Houston.  First, stay out of their blind spots.  Despite the fact that 18-wheelers have oversized mirrors with large magnifying convex additions, they still have blind spots that are generally just behind and to the right or left of the tractor.  When a large truck pulls up beside you on a Houston freeway, accelerate away or slow down until there is a clear, safe dixtance between you and the truck.  If an 18-wheeler appears to be tailgating you, move over, slow down, and let it pass.  If that does not work, find the nearest exit.  Do NOT allow an 18-wheeler driver to upset you and cause you to let your emotions get the best of you.  The consequences of an 18-wheeler wreck are often catastrophic and devastating.

If you or aloved one has been involved in a Galveston truck wreck or Houston truck wreck, call me, Tony Denena at 877.307.9500.  I am Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  I can help you.
