Auto defects are sometimes the cause of serious
Texas car wrecks. Vehicle manufacturers are required to design and manufacture vehicles that conform to safety standards. Once the vehicle manufacturer becomes aware of a defect, the law requires the manufacturer to notify vehicle owners and the public of the safety hazard. Since auto defects can cause serious injuries, the purpose of a vehicle recall is to protect the public from injury.
Chrysler Group LLC has recalled nearly 600,000 vehicles. In June 2010, Chrysler reported to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that auto defects affect five vehicle models, including the Chrysler Town and Country minivan, the Dodge Grand Caravan minivan, the Chrysler Jeep Wrangler, the Dodge Caliber, and the Jeep Compass.
The report made with the NHTSA reveals that an electrical problem affecting Town and Country and Grand Caravan 2008 and 2009 models may cause a short circuit to the sliding door, which could result in a fire. The recall affects at least 284,831 minivans. Chrysler also recalled 288,968 Wranglers made in the years 2007 to 2010. These modes are at risk of brake failure because of a leak.
Just days before the recall of the minivans and the Wranglers, Chrysler recalled two other vehicles. Chrysler reported that 25,336 2007 models of the Caliber and the Compass may be affected by a sticky accelerator pedal.
Chrysler has reported that it will notify owners during the month of June 2010 of the defects and will fix the vehicles without charge.
