Back to School Car Safety: Tips to Prevent a Galveston Auto Accident

When the kids head back to school, we often go through the checklist of what to buy: new sneakers, backpacks, clothes, crayons, paper pens, pencils...and the list goes on. But one thing that we should be paying attention to that frequently gets neglected is our car.
By keeping your car properly serviced and running smoothly, you could greatly decrease your chances of being involved in a Houston car crash. In order to make sure your vehicle is ready to transport your kids to school, practice and back home again, be sure to check the following:

  • Brakes - Brakes are a very important part of your vehicle, as they help you to stop quickly and avoid collisions. Make sure they are in tip-top shape. Don't wait for the "squealers" to notify you that your brakes need to be serviced, as you may have already lost some valuable braking power by this point.
  • Tires - Check to make sure your tread depth is more than 1/16 of an inch, make sure there are no cracks, tears or punctures, and ensure tires are properly inflated to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation.
  • Wipers - Wipers should not be cracked and should clear the window without leaving streaks.
  • Fluids - Make sure your wiper fluid is full, as well as all other necessary fluids like engine oil, transmission fluid and brake fluid.
  • Headlights - Headlights can dim over time - up to 20% in fact. This happens so slowly that you probably haven't noticed; however, installing new headlights on your vehicle could provide a noticeable increase in your viewing distance.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a Galveston car wreck, you need to speak with an attorney. Contact Denena & Points to set up your free consultation with a Galveston auto accident lawyer today.
